The Springhead Trust has been supporting a new community project in Fontmell Magna which aims to involve local people in planting, tending and cutting flowers on land behind the GP surgery.
Catherine Simmonds, Springhead’s Productive Gardens Co-ordinator, and Director Edward Parker joined other village volunteers in filling the new raised beds at the doctor’s surgery. The Springhead Trust will be sponsoring two more raised beds for the community flower garden which is to be called the Fontmell Friendship Garden.
The aim of the project is to provide a place where local people can gather to plant, tend and cut flowers for their own use and enjoyment and to benefit their health. The area will also provide a social meeting point. There are plans for a rota of volunteers to help look after the beds, where flowering plants will also provide nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.
